IBM CEO Arvind Krishna has announced that the company will pause or slow hiring for roles that could be replaced by AI in the coming years. Back-office positions and departments such as HR, which make up around 26,000 positions in IBM’s workforce, could see up to 30% of jobs replaced by AI and automation over a five-year period, potentially affecting around 7,800 human jobs. However, IBM is still hiring for customer-facing and software development roles.
