Impact of AI on employment
Explore how AI reshapes the job market, contributing to layoffs while also paving the way for new opportunities in a rapidly evolving economy.
Artificial intelligence (AI) was responsible for 3,900 job cuts in May, making it the seventh-highest contributor to employment losses in the US, according to a report by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. The report also revealed that layoff announcements from US-based employers reached more than 80,000 in May, a 20% increase from the prior month and almost four times the level for the same month last year. The AI industry is expected to grow to more than $1tn, with generative AI creating new jobs.
